Why holiday homes need a different approach

A holiday home is not like a flat you live in every day. It stands empty for long periods, it is used seasonally, it is often on higher ground or a damp location, and the wiring is old or was done in stages. That is exactly why the problems here differ from those in the city - and call for a different approach.

  • Seasonal use - a big surge of demand when you arrive (water heater, heaters, air conditioning), then weeks with nobody there
  • Damp and the weather - mountain and lakeside properties suffer from damp, which attacks the wiring
  • Remoteness - further from any service, so when something fails you want someone who comes out with all the equipment in one trip
  • Old or unfinished wiring - many holiday homes have ceramic fuses, no RCD protection, or sections done by the owner

What we do at holiday homes

Seasonal preparation (winter and summer)

Before winter: checking the heating and the water heater, frost protection, and inspecting the board before the house is left empty. Before summer / the season: separate circuits for the air conditioning and the water heater so the fuse does not trip when everything comes on at once. Preparing in advance is cheaper than an emergency call-out in the middle of the season.

Damp, the outdoors and lightning protection

For outdoor properties we use IP65/IP67 rated equipment - outdoor lighting, sockets on the terrace and in the garage, path lighting. Proper earthing and RCD protection are essential anywhere there is damp. For isolated homes on high ground we also recommend a lightning conductor - they are more exposed to storms than buildings in town.

Remote monitoring and security

When the house stands empty for weeks, it helps to know what is going on. We fit smart solutions - remote monitoring of power and temperature, an alert if the supply is lost, and cabling for an alarm and cameras. That way you find out in time if the power goes off or it is freezing, instead of discovering the damage when you arrive.

Old or unfinished wiring

Many old holiday cottages have ceramic fuses, aluminium conductors and sections done in stages by different people. We sort them out - a new board with circuit breakers and RCD protection, new cabling where needed, earthing and sockets with an earth. We work tidily, with minimal chasing.

Where we come out to

We regularly come out to Matka and Vodno, towards Mavrovo and Popova Sapka, to lakeside properties (Lake Ohrid, Lake Dojran) and the villages around Skopje. We set off from Skopje with all the equipment - for larger jobs we draw up a multi-day schedule at a fixed price agreed in advance.

How the visit is arranged

Everything is agreed by phone before we set off - what the job covers and what it costs, with no surprises on site. For more distant locations we combine your job with another in the same area so the journey is better value. Tell us the exact location and what is happening - on the phone it is usually clear straight away whether it is urgent and how long it will take.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you come out to more remote holiday homes?

Yes - we regularly come out to Matka, Vodno, towards Mavrovo and Popova Sapka, to lakeside properties and the villages around Skopje. Tell us the exact location when you call so we can plan the journey and the materials.

Can you prepare the holiday home before winter or the season?

Yes. Before winter we do frost protection, check the heating and water heater, and inspect the board. Before the season we add separate circuits for the air conditioning and water heater so the fuse does not trip. Preparing in advance is cheaper than an emergency call-out mid-season.

How is the call-out charged when I am far away?

The price and travel costs are agreed by phone before we set off - with no hidden costs. For larger jobs travel is part of the total agreed price, and smaller jobs in the same area are combined so it is better value.

Do you work on old mountain houses with old wiring?

Yes, it is a job we do often. We replace ceramic fuses with circuit breakers and RCD protection, sort out aluminium cabling, fit damp-resistant outdoor lighting and, where needed, a lightning conductor - tidily and with minimal chasing.
