Electrical Installations in Skopje - Wall Chasing and Cabling
We carry out complete electrical installations for flats, houses and commercial properties - from the first channel cut into the wall to the certificate at the end. We work on new builds and on older properties being rewired in full.
Leave a requestWall chasing for cables
Chasing is the cutting of channels in the wall that the cables run through. It is the first and least visible stage, but everything after it depends on it - if the channel is not straight and at the right depth, the cable sits crooked, the plaster cracks above it, and every future repair means breaking the wall open again.
We work with a chasing machine with dust extraction, which means straight edges and far less mess. Channels run vertically and horizontally to standard, so anyone drilling into that wall later knows where the cable is.
What the stage covers
- Marking out the routes before cutting
- Chasing channels in brick, concrete and block
- Diamond core drilling for passes through load-bearing walls and slabs
- Drilling back boxes for sockets, switches and junction boxes
- Laying conduit and flexible ducting
- Closing the channels after the cables are laid
Cabling and final installation
Cable cross-section is chosen by the load on the circuit, not by what happens to be at hand - lighting, sockets and heavy loads such as cookers, boilers and air conditioning go on separate circuits with their own breaker.
- Load calculation and cable sizing
- Separate circuits for lighting, sockets and heavy loads
- Consumer unit with circuit breakers and RCD protection
- Earthing throughout the installation
- Fitting sockets, switches and outlets
- Testing, inspection and certification on completion
New build or older property
On a new build we come in at first fix, before plastering, and route the installation to the drawings and the furniture layout. That is the moment when adding a socket where you will actually need one is still cheap.
In older properties we often find aluminium wiring, two cores with no earth, and a board with rewireable fuses. There the installation is replaced in full - aluminium becomes brittle at the joints over time and is a common source of overheating.
How long it takes
For a flat it depends on the floor area and the number of points, but first fix - chasing and cabling - is usually a few days, with final fitting after the plastering and painting. We agree the exact schedule on site, once we have seen what is there and what you want.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is wall chasing?
Chasing is cutting channels into the wall that electrical cables are laid into. It is done with a chasing machine, and the channels are filled once the cables are in.
How much dust does chasing make?
With a dust-extraction machine it is minimal compared to breaking the wall open. The room still needs protecting, which we do before starting.
Can you chase a load-bearing wall?
Deep horizontal channels are not cut into load-bearing walls. There we use diamond core drilling for a pass, or route the installation another way. We assess that on site.
Do you certify the work?
Yes. On completion the installation is tested and documentation for the work carried out is issued.
